What your Mini One is actually worth at scrap

The Mini One is the entry-level Mini, so they're plentiful and parts demand is steady rather than premium — but the BMW-era cars (R56 onwards) share the Prince engine, brakes, and electronics with the Cooper and Cooper S, so good used parts move quickly. The biggest value drivers are an intact catalytic converter and the body panels and lights, since Mini body parts are pricey new.

Catalytic converter alone: £100-£250 (petrol — decent precious metal content). If yours has been stolen or removed, expect roughly £80-£200 off the typical range — we'll factor it in honestly when you send the reg, not surprise you on collection.

What breakers buy your Mini One for

We don't just sell your car as raw steel. We shop it to specialist breakers who pay premium for the parts that hold value on this model:

Catalytic converters (petrol — worth claiming)
Engines and gearboxes (Prince N12/N16)
Body panels, doors, bonnets (pricey new)
Headlights and rear lights
Interior trim and the distinctive centre dials
Alloy wheels
Electronic modules

Mini One engines and body styles we collect

Common engines:

1.6 petrol (R50 — Tritec)
1.6 petrol (R56 — Prince N12/N16)
1.4 / 1.5 (F56)

Body styles: 3-door hatch, 5-door hatch (later)

Years covered: 2001-2019 (R50, R56 and F56 generations)

Recent Mini One we collected

"Collected a 2009 Mini One 1.6 from Southend in early May — the timing chain was rattling and the owner had been quoted £1,200. 96k miles, tidy. Paid £220 cash, same-day collection. The cat, engine ancillaries, panels and interior dials were the parts the breaker wanted."

— From Prime's recent collection log. Names and exact reg numbers omitted for privacy.

Mini Ones we collect are usually 10-16 year old first cars — a younger owner facing a timing-chain rattle (the well-known R56 N12/N14 issue), a clutch, or a gearbox bill that outweighs the value of an entry-level Mini.

How it works

1. WhatsApp us with your reg

Send the registration number, the model, and a quick description of the condition (running, non-running, MOT failure, etc.). One photo is helpful but not essential.

2. We shop your Mini One around and quote you

We get prices from the licensed scrap yards and specialist breakers we work with — the people who pay top whack for Mini parts in particular — and come back to you with the best one. Usually within minutes. No obligation if you don't like the number.

3. We collect, pay you, and handle the paperwork

Once you accept, we arrange a collection time that suits you — same-day where possible. We pay you cash on collection, take the car to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, and make sure your DVLA notification and Certificate of Destruction come through properly.

Any condition — we'll take it

We collect Mini Ones in any state, including:

Failed MOT
Insurance write-offs (Cat S, Cat N)
Non-runners and seized engines
Accident damage
Missing keys or V5C (we'll help)
High-mileage end-of-life
Cat-stolen cars

Mini One scrap — frequently asked

My Mini One has the timing chain rattle — is it worth scrapping?

Usually yes. The N12/N14 'death rattle' on the R56-era Mini is expensive to fix (£1,200+) and rarely worth it on an entry-level One. But the body panels, lights, interior, gearbox and catalytic converter all retain value separately, so we'll still pay £130-£250 for a complete car.

Is a Mini One worth less than a Cooper or Cooper S as scrap?

A little, but not much. The One shares most of its body, interior and running gear with the Cooper, so parts demand is similar. The Cooper S commands more for its turbo engine and brakes. WhatsApp us the reg and we'll tell you exactly what yours is worth.

Will you collect a Mini that won't start?

Yes — non-runners are no problem. We bring a recovery truck, so a Mini with a snapped chain, dead battery or seized engine can still be collected. We just need the V5C or proof of ownership to do the DVLA paperwork.

Do I need to be there when you collect the car?

Yes — we'll need to see your ID, the V5C if you have it, and have you sign the disposal paperwork. The whole collection takes about 10-15 minutes.

What if I've lost the V5C (logbook)?

Not a problem. We can still collect — we'll help you handle the DVLA notification. It just takes a little longer to process.

Will I get a Certificate of Destruction?

Yes. We deliver every car to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) and the CoD comes through to you within 7-14 days. This is what legally clears you of any future liability for the car.
